On Feb 26, 2023, the Independent Newspaper revealed that parts of the James Bond books were going to be "rewritten" following a sensitivity review prior to their re-release in April 2023.

As a life-long fan and reader of Ian Fleming's James Bond books, I join many other fans in being disgusted by this move. Although many parts of the original books are offensive to our modern sensibilities, they were and remain accurate examples of the attitudes many people had during that period.

For the sake of historical context, and to allow us to discuss elements of these books accurately, it is essential that these problematic passages remain unaltered. As adult readers, we are able to enjoy these books without condoning these attitudes, and part of the appeal of reading Ian Fleming books is being able to discuss how society has changed during the course of James Bond's 70 year history and that can only happen if Ian Fleming's original words are accurately reprinted.

Ian Fleming was a journalist, and dedicated to the truth. Therefore it is a stain on his legacy for the Estate of Ian Fleming to condone this kind of cynical historical revisionism.
