The Issue

We, the residents of Hernando County Florida, oppose hyperscale data centers being approved in our county.

Hyperscale data centers consume enormous amounts of electricity and precious water, strain local infrastructure, increase utility costs, create 24/7 noise and light pollution, cause multiple health issues and rely on polluting diesel backup generators. They also place additional pressure on our critically dwindling aquifer, which is our only life sustaining drinking-water source. In our area, where water scarcity is becoming a pressing issue within our aquifer, the construction of these power-hungry facilities poses an unsustainable strain on our precious resources. Water is our Life Source and without it all of Florida will not survive!

Hernando County, the Nature Coast, should not become a hyperscale data center hub at the
expense of residents, wildlife, agricultural lands and our air and especially our life sustaining water supplies.

We urge the county and state authorities and all relevant agencies to take immediate action to halt any and all proposals for hyperscale data centers and prevent these projects from moving forward. Our land, precious water and well-being depend on decisions that respect the environment and the people that call these areas home. We are calling on all Hernando County residents who values the preservation of our natural landscapes and most importantly our life sustaining water to join us in this cause.  Please sign the petition to demand a permanent ban on the construction of hyperscale data centers in Hernando County and advocate for sustainable and responsible development practices.

I am writing to request hyperscale data centers be permanently banned in Hernando County Florida.

Hyperscale data centers are massive industrial facilities that consume enormous amounts of electricity,  put additional pressure on local infrastructures and our precious life sustaining water supplies. They put a  strain on our currently overloaded power grid, increase utility costs, rely on diesel backup generators, create noise and light pollution. Additionally, there are multiple health concerns which are currently under investigation.

Hyperscale data centers are especially concerning in Hernando County because of drought conditions and citizens depends heavily on our fragile aquifers for drinking water. Residents should not be expected to accept increased electric demand, potential water strain, noise pollution, health issues, toxic diesel emissions, aquifer risk or public infrastructure costs for private data center development.

I urge Hernando County officials, state authorities and all relevant agencies to act now to ban hyperscale data centers from moving forward in Hernando County.

Please protect our wellbeing, our life sustaining water and air supply, our overloaded power grid, the ecological environment and our peaceful neighborhoods for the people and threatened wildlife that call this beautiful Nature Coast home!
Thank you,
