Stop Hugo Boss's Unjust Opposition to Personal Trademark 'BBSS Girl'

The Issue

The BBSS Girl trade and brand mark holds a profound personal importance for me and my family. Born from a place of love, I instigated it during a period of ill health. My aim was to reinforce a heartfelt message to my daughter - that she is 'Blessed, Beautiful, Smart and Strong'. This encapsulates a guiding principle that I hold dear, it’s not just a brand, but a positive affirmation intended to instill self-empowerment and an unwavering belief in her own potential, especially at times when I may not be available to guide her directly. It’s a legacy I so wanted to leave behind, for my daughter and beyond.

However, this personal and significant symbol is threatened by the international fashion brand Hugo Boss. They have been active in legally opposing our trademark with oppressive tactics.  A report from the World Intellectual Property Organization indicates increased global trademark dispute cases, with trademark bullying representing a significant portion (source: WIPO Annual Report 2020).

This leaves individual creators and small businesses like ours vulnerable to the might of these established entities, undermining creativity, personal expression, and the resolution to make meaningful contributions. Hugo Boss’s actions, in our case, feel like a personal attack that disregards the emotional significance of our trademark ‘BBSS Girl’. It eclipses basic rights for fair opportunities in the marketplace and disrupts the equilibrium of ethical, commercial conduct.

We implore Hugo Boss to withdraw their legal opposition to the 'BBSS Girl' trademark, and urge them to show respect for individual creativity and personal passions, rather than silencing them with their corporate might. Every individual deserves the opportunity to express their voice, create their own path, and leave a positive footprint.

Please sign this petition to stand with us against corporate trademark bullying, and to defend the value and authenticity of BBSS Girl. We thank everyone in advance for the much-needed support.

Sandra Fagan,                                                                                            Ms. BBSS Girl
