Stop horse droppings on public trails

Stop horse droppings on public trails
The Issue
I love hiking and the tranquility of being in nature, but it's incredibly frustrating when I have to constantly watch my step to avoid stepping in horse droppings. Instead of enjoying the scenic views and the beauty of the surrounding environment, I'm forced to keep my head down, eyes glued to the ground. It's disheartening to experience such annoyance on what should be a relaxing and refreshing walk through nature.
Horse manure not only creates an unpleasant experience for hikers and walkers but also poses health and environmental concerns. These droppings can be laden with parasites and bacteria that are harmful to both humans and the native flora and fauna. Moreover, when it rains, the manure can contaminate nearby water bodies, affecting the quality of water and the ecosystems that depend on them.
Public trails should be a haven for all who seek solace in nature, away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. It's essential that these spaces are kept clean and safe for everyone to enjoy. There are practical solutions that can be enforced to manage this issue effectively. Horse riders should be required to carry equipment, such as manure bags or panniers, to collect droppings as and when they occur. Alternatively, designated trails for horse riders only can be established to minimize the impact on mixed-use paths.
Sign this petition to urge local authorities, park managers, and trail organizations to implement regulations addressing horse droppings on public trails. We deserve to enjoy nature without the worry of dodging piles of manure. Let's work together to make our trails more enjoyable and sustainable for everyone. Your signature can make a difference and help create a cleaner, more enjoyable hiking experience for all. Please support this initiative by signing today.
