__________

Summary:
In the European Union, millions of people are unknowingly at risk due to a critical gap in food labeling regulations. EU Regulation 1169/2011 allows products containing up to 1.2% alcohol to be sold without any warning label. For the 23 million Europeans in recovery from alcohol addiction, this regulatory loophole can mean the difference between months of sobriety and sudden relapse.

Everyday products hide alcohol without disclosure: non-alcoholic beer (up to 0.5%), kombucha (0.2-1.2%), kvass bread (0.2%), dark chocolate (up to 0.5%), and kefir (0.2-0.4%). For someone whose brain chemistry has been altered by years of addiction, even these trace amounts can trigger neurological responses that jeopardize their recovery.

The EU already requires mandatory labeling for allergens affecting 5-10% of the population. Yet alcohol dependence, which affects 5% of Europeans, receives no such protection. This double standard is indefensible.

We are not asking to ban products. We are demanding transparency.

We call on EU lawmakers to amend Regulation 1169/2011 to require:

- Mandatory "CONTAINS ALCOHOL" label on all products above 0.1% alcohol by volume
- Clear visual warning (icon and color coding) visible without reading fine print
- Protection for vulnerable groups: people in recovery, pregnant women, children, and those with medical conditions

One person in recovery described it this way: "Two years sober, destroyed by chocolate candy I thought was safe." This is not theoretical. This is happening now.

Your signature can change EU law. Sign this petition to demand clear alcohol labeling and protect millions of Europeans from hidden risks.
