Doug Wilson is a self-proclaimed Christian nationalist whose controversial views pose a threat to the values of inclusivity and equality that our community holds dear.

He has explicitly stated his desire to repeal a woman's right to vote, defended the abhorrent practices of slavery, and believes that homosexuality should be criminalized. 

It is deeply troubling that The Factory at Franklin, a cultural cornerstone in our community, is providing a platform for such hateful rhetoric on October 3, 2026.

Allowing Doug Wilson to speak at this venue normalises ideas that are harmful and divisive. This is not just his right to free speech; it's about who we allow to influence our neighborhoods and shape public discourse. Hate speech has no place in Franklin. We have fought for years to make this a welcoming, diverse community, and our hard-won social progress is threatened by giving a stage to those who openly promote discrimination and inequality.

The Factory at Franklin is more than just a venue. It's a community gathering space where families, friends, and neighbors come together to share and celebrate our collective achievements. By hosting Doug Wilson, we risk legitimising his views and tarnishing the reputation of a beloved community hub. Our values of equality, respect, and acceptance are fundamentally at odds with the views Doug Wilson espouses.

"We understand and take seriously the concerns our community has raised regarding the upcoming Fight Laugh Feast conference at The Factory at Franklin.
This event is independently organized by an outside group that rented space at The Factory. The Factory neither endorses nor promotes the views upheld by this organization nor its speakers.
The Factory rents its venues for legal uses without regard to an organization’s religion, political philosophy, or beliefs. This event client has a contractual right to the space on the dates of the conference. We are working with organizers to engage extra security and Franklin police presence during the event to ensure the safety of all tenants, staff and guests.
The Factory would like to thank the community for its ongoing support.
