Stop Harm to People From Unsafe Contaminated Land Development in Cleckheaton
The Issue
For the past 16 weeks, Cleckheaton residents have been exposed to serious health risks from the unsafe development of contaminated land off Westgate.
Tests have found brown and white asbestos dust inside nearby homes.
The site was once used for chemical works, a foundry, and an asbestos factory. Soil tests show dangerous levels of asbestos, lead, arsenic, and cyanide.
Worryingly, a major asbestos factory on the site was left out of official reports, so the full risk is unknown.
Construction is still going ahead, with pile driving planned that could release even more toxic dust.
People living nearby are already reporting toddlers with blocked lungs, new asthma cases, chest problems, skin rashes, and eye infections. Dust is settling inside homes and on cars and windows.
We need urgent action to protect the health of Cleckheaton community.
