Transport for London have halted roadworks designed by Hammersmith & Fulham Council to further congest Wandsworth Bridge Road, stating that the proposals have the potential to create “further operational challenges” on the Strategic Road Network. The team within TfL responsible for buses have raised concerns regarding existing bus performance, already made worse by Fulham’s Low Traffic Neighbourhoods, and have ongoing questions on the proposed design which has the potential to further erode bus journey times.
TfL have requested details on the public consultation as well as further technical data, but… THERE HAS BEEN NO PUBLIC CONSULTATION ON THIS SCHEME!
The first that residents knew full details of the scheme was from a leaflet drop in July 2025 to some properties, informing them that work would start in August 2025. The parts of the work that will be dangerous to pedestrians and cyclists such as replacing the cycle space with chicanes to create a “meandering road” were described as “safety improvements” because more zebra crossings were proposed. There were notices on the absolute minimum parts of the scheme which needed statutory notification – the zebra crossings and converting some parking bays – but from 290 responses, only 8 were in support. No consultation took place over the most unpopular and unsafe elements that replace the cycle space with chicanes, making pedestrians share the pavement with cyclists. Telling residents what is going to happen is NOT consultation!

Please help TfL to prevent Hammersmith & Fulham Council clogging up Wandsworth Bridge Road and Southwest London!
