Stop glysophate spraying in Yanchep community areas
The issue
I live in Yanchep, a beautiful community surrounded by nature where residents enjoy strolling along the walking paths, playing in the parks, and letting our beloved pets frolic at the dog parks. However, a hidden threat looms over these cherished spaces. The use of glyphosate, a harmful herbicide, is putting us all at risk. Glyphosate has been classified as a probable human carcinogen by the International Agency for Research on Cancer, part of the World Health Organization. Despite its widespread use, evidence has linked glyphosate to the development of cancer, which is concerning, especially in areas frequented by our children and pets. This chemical can remain active on sprayed areas for weeks, posing a high risk of exposure.
I have personally witnessed children playing in areas that were sprayed just days before. Seeing kids unknowingly exposed to something potentially detrimental to their health is distressing for any parent. Similarly, our pets, which are part of our family, romp around these paths daily, putting them at unnecessary risk.
There are better and safer alternatives to glyphosate that can manage weeds effectively. Eco-friendly methods such as steam weeding or organic herbicides not only protect human health but also preserve the local flora and fauna, keeping our environment healthier.
I am calling on the local council and relevant health authorities to immediately cease glyphosate spraying in Yanchep's community areas and to explore safer alternatives. I urge residents and all concerned citizens to support this petition. Together, we can protect our community's health and maintain the natural beauty of our environment.
Please sign this petition to demand an end to glyphosate use in our beloved Yanchep areas. Together, we can make a difference and create a safer, healthier space for everyone.
