Stop Glorification of Narcos in Netflix Original Series

The Issue

Born and raised in Ecuador, I've witnessed firsthand the disturbing rise of narcos within our country. The previous administrations, led by Correa, had influences and alliances with diffrent types of criminals, further strengthening their presence. This influence is more than just local politics – it shapes how the world sees the crime and chaos plaguing my beloved homeland.

Netflix, with its reach of over 209 million subscribers across 190 countries, possesses the power to amplify this distorted image on a global scale through its original programming. Recently, there's been a disturbing trend of series that portray narcos as martyrs rather than the dangerous criminals that they truly are even more, they are planning to release a production to position Correa as the person who is "on the right side of the history" and make the government (Ecuador) look as bad as they can portray. By giving these criminals the storefront they crave, Netflix indirectly aids in their manipulation of global perception.

Just as 'narco corridos' have twisted the cultural landscape in Mexico by romanticizing the violent and illegal activities of drug cartels, these Netflix series could potentially cause irreversible harm to our society's understanding and perception of the drug crisis and how justice works.

This is not just a fight for accurate representations on a streaming platform - or a platform receiving narco money to release movies or series created by criminals ... it's a battle against the further normalization of crime and its consequent influence on the next generation.

By signing this petition, you prompt Netflix to take responsibility for the content they produce AND distribute worldwide. Let's urge them to NOT LET that party release any production trough netflix a platform for narcos to be viewed as heroes or sharing productions from corrupt parties such as those mentioned here or elsewhere. Your signature can make a difference in how our world perceives, and ultimately deals with, the reality of the narcotic crisis in Latinamerican countries. Please, sign and share this petition.
