The Louisiana River Parishes Tourist Commission has removed as its URL, visitnopc.com to LARiverParishes.com as of 6/18. They have not taken the steps to remove "Plantation Country" completely from LARiverParishes.com and have not updated the site with a blurb paying homage to slavery, systemic racism and the atrocities that occurred on this land.

Furthermore, they are still advertising wedding venues, ornate features and beauty of these labor homes which led to the inhumane treatment, and deaths of thousands of African descent enslaved people. It's time to stop glamorizing these SACRED homes.

I've included a direct contact to the Executive Director of the Louisiana River Parishes Tourist Commission, Buddy Boe. Please pass the petition along, contact him directly if necessary (phone number is listed in the petition link), and let's stop the glamorization of these homes and begin to honor the African-American narrative. Black Lives will always matter.

I've attached an example of the glamorization of plantations below.

If you call, please state the following:

Hi (Name),

I'm calling on behalf of Melanin MeetUps to stop the glamorization of plantation tourism on Louisiana River Parishes' website. I see you have not created an overall statement outlining the atrocities that occurred on these sacred homes and wedding venues and the beauty of the homes are still marketed. Furthermore, you have not renamed Plantation Country on your website. What steps are you taking to change this?
