Stop Generated AI From Invading The Animation Industry

Stop Generated AI From Invading The Animation Industry
The Issue
This petition is to stop and remind companies (both indie and corporate ones) that artificial intelligence is harmful to all artists in the animation industry.
As a musician and artist, it's breaks my heart to see a lot of people would use Al-generated "art" (Or as us artists call it AI Slop), instead of paying or commissioning artists. I have a lot of artist friends who's art has been stolen due to AI. A lot of voice actors aren't getting paid, because they are replace by AI.
In early 2025, OpenAI face a lot of copyright lawsuits. However, they weren't taking it seriously due to not having rules that are set in regards to AI. In his exact words, Hayao Miyazaki said AI-generated animation was an insult to life itself, "This is just our experiment and we don't intend to do anything by showing it to the world." Although Studio Ghibli didn't sue ChatGPT and being openly against AI, it's best for all artists to encourage them to do so.
Dana Terrace, an animator who worked at Disney Television Animation for ten years openly speak out against the company for it's gender pay gap and queerphobia after leaving in 2023. In November 2025, Disney announced a feature allowing people to create their own AI-generated content in their Disney+ app. She tell her fans to unsubscribe their accounts and pirate her show "The Owl House."
Another current harmful AI attack on the animation industry is Amazon Prime using AI-generative voices for the English and Spanish dub of well-loved anime adaptation Banana Fish. A lot of fans (including myself) were not happy. And now Amazon Prime is planning on using this same tactic on future anime dubs. Voice actor Daman Mills stated on social media that he won’t work for the company again if they keep the AI-generated dub up.
Over 90% of artists view AI-generated pieces in a negative light according to a research study by Zephin Livingston. This action could extend far beyond the animation industry, impacting writers, musicians, artists, and voice actors alike, leading to the disrespect and lack of creativity driven by a generative machine rather than human. With all the money they have, greedy companies use a cheap generative program rather than paying for artists with a creative process. Generative AI threatens the livelihood of artists, pitting their labor against the cheap slop produced by dead machines.
I urge animation studios, industry leaders, and policymakers to set guidelines and regulations that ensure human creativity and emotions is being replace. California Governor Newsom signed law SB-53, the law that enhance online safety by installing commonsense guardrails on the development of frontier AI models. It's the first anti-AI law to pass. This is a fresh start, although it's a different situation, but this contributes to why generative AI is harmful, not to mention it's harmful impact on the environment.
Sign this petition to put a halt to the harmful encroachment of AI-generated projects and tactics for the sake of your artistic family members and friends' path. Support real artists!
