Stop Gas Station in Our Neighborhood

The Issue

The City of O’Fallon Missouri is granting approval for Royal Fuels to have a conditional use permit (CUP) to allow a convenience store with fuel sales in a C2/General Business District at 8201 Mexico Road. The location is west of Belleau Creek Road and east of Barrington Drive.

At their Sept. 22 meeting, the council approved Bill No. 7481 by a vote of 8-1, with Ward 5 council member Debbie Cook voting no, and Ward 4 council member Jeff Kuehn absent/excused. The bill, granting the CUP, was sponsored by Ward 1 council members Dave Hinman and Deana Smith.

The land parcel is 1.79 acres and is adjacent to Schrader Farm Estates on the north and a single-family residence on the south. The property east is undeveloped. To the west is Winchester Estates.

The applicant had said they will offer traditional items including dry grocery, cold drinks, dairy, beer, wine and liquor. They will have a coffee bar, frozen bar with slushies, and a full fountain drink area. They also will have bakery items and hot foods to go, a Lottery program, and tobacco items. Store hours are to be 24 hours per day, 7 days per week.

This is happening next to homes. It will bring in more crime, trash, pollution, and accidents. We already have enough problems in this area and don’t need to add more. Not to mention the safety of our children walking to school. Please sign this petition to let O’Fallon know that we don’t want this. We have 6 gas stations within 3 miles of this area and don’t need another one in our backyard. Thank you
