Stop Gas N Wash Lemont Road

Stop Gas N Wash Lemont Road
The Issue
Growing gas-station company “Gas N Wash” seeks to build a new gas station alongside family homes on Lemont Road. They will propose their plans to Lemont, after they did not find success through the Village of Woodridge. Over 1,500 concerned citizens signed this petition to stop the Village of Woodridge from allowing the gas station to disrupt their neighborhood. Now, we need to prevent Lemont from attempting the same thing.
The four homes on Lemont Rd. that Gas n Wash purchased between Oct 2024 and April 2025
The Gas n Wash Lemont Road location would involve rezoning 4 residential lots neighboring Pleasantdale into the truck stop, despite pushback from the residents who will be impacted by its construction. When Gas N Wash originally pitched this plan in a different nearby location through the village of Woodridge, they had ambitious plans: a 24/7 gaming center, a convenience store with liquor sales, fast food restaurants, a car wash with vacuums, and a 3-island diesel fueling station with semi truck access. If approved, this new gas station will bring increased pollution, noise, light, and traffic to the area. Residents are also concerned about the negative health impacts of fueling stations.
It seems that Gas N Wash has been rezoning property to fit their plans for large gas stations around the Chicago suburbs. The company’s controversial habit of converting property next to neighborhoods into gas stations has impacted residents of other nearby towns. Despite pushback from locals, they’ve done the same thing they plan to do on Lemont Road in various locations, such as in Joliet and New Lenox. The company’s continued push to build unnecessary gas stations does not reflect any recognition of the concerned citizens or the potential for harming them.
According to Illinois gaming laws, truck stops that wish to have 24-hour gaming must be located within 3 miles of a freeway interchange. Gas N Wash’s prospective Lemont Road location would be conveniently located under a mile from I-55, allowing them to feature 24/7 gaming to its visitors. Illinois gaming laws would also require the station to sell 50,000 gallons of diesel fuel a month. In addition to bringing increased semi truck traffic down Lemont Road, the diesel fumes may put surrounding residents at a higher risk of cancer and other health issues.
On October 3rd, 2022, the Woodridge planning commission denied an initial proposal from Gas N Wash further down Lemont Road between the Hindu Temple and Internationale Estates. After minor changes to the proposal, on November 17th, Gas N Wash’s plans were presented again to the village board members. Local residents attended the meeting to voice their concerns about the negative impact this truck stop will have on their families and homes. Concerned citizens continued to voice their concern and sign the popular petition to stop the truck stop. Just before the highly anticipated December 15th 2022, Woodridge board meeting, Gas n Wash pulled their proposal from the village.
In October 2024, Gas n Wash purchased 3 residential homes along Lemont road, and a 4th in April 2025, just south of the Lemont National Bank on the corner of Lemont Rd and 97th street. Mayor John Egofske of The Village of Lemont is currently paving the way for Gas n Wash to create their new location here, despite further pushback from the community. Please contact the decision makers below and attend any relevant board meetings to voice your concerns.
