The Issue

Imagine knowing what your doing is so wrong, you no longer want the people to know when and where your destruction will take place next. being in “such fear” you now do it secretively.

For a little info for people who don’t know what’s going on, Florida fish and wildlife conservation commission (FWC) uses an “eco friendly” safe herbicide to kill off “non-native and overpopulating” plant species. Hydrilla (which was introduced to Florida in the 1950’s.) this plant provides beneficial amenities for our native fish and shellfish species, on top of a very beneficial and staple food source for our native and migratory waterfowl. They wish to destroy this plant to please the non Floridian population who move to this state for our world famous bass fishing and beautiful lakes, due to the fact that this plant congestes the outboard motors used by said boaters.

They claim the herbicides are “beneficial” and “non hazardous” to our waterways, water-hyacinth is another plant that they wish to “control” or eradicate.  Water-hyacinth is a free floating aquatic plant that reduces water pollution and can be processed as animal feed, compost, and bioenergy solutions while also providing shelter and ambush points for our native predatory fish. (Bass, bluegill, long nose gar, spotted gar, bowfin) and many others. It’s also beneficial for our native reptile populations (gators, turtles, snakes) while yes, too much of this plant can cause issues of concern, a WELL MANAGED population would remain beneficial.

The affects that these said herbicides have on our native plant population is another concern. (Lily pads, Pickerel Weed, Duck potato, Florida canna, Fire flag, spatterdock) and many other native plants have felt the affects of spraying our waterways. Not to mention the affects on our marshes and brackish water estuaries also feel the negative affects of these herbicide sprayings from the outflow of the “fresh”water into these places.

I’ve left a link below for the main herbicide used by the FWC and other sub contracted agencies, that is in turn making its way into our aquifers, if it enough to kill alligators and other reptiles. What is it doing to us?

THIS IS NOT CONSERVATION

I encourage everyone to vote and show up to the FWC commission meetings that are hosted. Sign petitions and make your voice heard, the more we all stand together the better off we are. Strength in numbers. (DO NOT THREATEN COMMISSIONERS AND WRITE NASTY EMAILS AND LETTERS!) keep it professional and respectful, you’ll get nowhere being nasty and rude. If you’ve made it this far I thank you for reding and I encourage you to share this and stand up. Thank you!!
