Stop Funding Terror with Australian Money
The issue
Australia currently allocates $30 million dollars per year from taxpayer money to support UNRWA. This money ends up in the hands of terrorists including Hamas, funding their activities, maintaining budgets of terrorist regimes, and propagating hate against Israel.
UNRWA is one of the two refugee agencies within the United Nations. While another agency, UNHCR, is responsible for all millions of refugees worldwide, UNRWA focuses exclusively on the tiny Palestinian minority even though both organisations have similar budgets. However, this is not the biggest problem. The policies and the goals of UNHCR and UNRWA couldn't be more contrasting. While UNHCR goal is to settle the refugees and resolve their problems, UNRWA goal is to preserve refugee status. Unlike UNHCR, in UNRWA refugee status is inherited from father to son and can never be revoked. Even when "refugees" obtain Citizenship of other countries. Among these "Palestinian Refugees" you can find an American congresswoman, billionaires, and celebrities. In reality, today's "Palestinian Refugees" do not meet the criteria for refugee status applied elsewhere in the world.
The funds designated for UNRWA in Gaza are administered by Hamas, the de facto authority in the region. Australian taxpayer money intended to assist people inadvertently supports terrorist activities. UNRWA schools promote an education infused with anti-Jewish sentiment, conduct military youth camps, and espouse Islamist ideologies, with many UNRWA employees openly expressing support for terrorism on social media. All these facts have been well-documented by organisations like UN Watch, yet our politicians continue to ignore them.
Therefore, we urge the Australian Government, and specifically Penny Wong to take the following actions:
1. Please stop funding terror through UNRWA and use this money for a better course.
2. Please work with other international players and advocate to dismantle UNRWA, with its double standards. All refugees should receive consistent care under UNHCR uniform approach.
