Stop forcing women with endometriosis to pay privately for essential NHS care

Stop forcing women with endometriosis to pay privately for essential NHS care
The Issue
Living with endometriosis for over 17 years has been a long, painful journey. After years of chronic pelvic pain, countless medical appointments, and bladder and bowel dysfunction, I’m finally moving forward with treatment. But surgery alone is not enough — comprehensive care, including pelvic floor physiotherapy, pain management, mental health support, and fertility guidance, is essential for managing symptoms and improving quality of life.
Despite being recommended as part of my care, I’ve been told that pelvic floor physiotherapy is not funded by the NHS for women with endometriosis at my hospital (RVI Newcastle), meaning I would need to pay privately — adding another financial burden to an already exhausting medical journey. Beyond physiotherapy, I have received little guidance on pain management, minimal discussion about fertility options, and no support for the mental health impact of living with a chronic, debilitating condition.
This is not just my story. Across the UK, women with endometriosis and other chronic reproductive health conditions often face the same struggle: having to pay for treatments and support that are NHS-funded for other conditions. This is unfair, inequitable, and leaves many without the comprehensive care they need to live full, healthy lives.
Endometriosis affects 1 in 10 women in the UK, and research shows that pelvic floor physiotherapy, alongside coordinated care for pain, mental health, and fertility, can significantly reduce suffering and improve quality of life. Denying access to these essential services simply because of diagnosis is unjust.
We call on the NHS and the Government to ensure that care pathways for women with endometriosis and chronic reproductive health conditions are fully funded and multidisciplinary, covering pelvic floor physiotherapy, surgery, pain management, mental health, and fertility support. Comprehensive, evidence-based care should be available to all, not just those who can afford it.
Sign this petition to demand fair, accessible NHS care for women with endometriosis and chronic reproductive health conditions. Together, we can end this inequality and help countless women live better, healthier lives.
