Stop Forced Parenthood: Protect Children & Young Adults (Ages 10-21) in Georgia

The Issue

WHO IS IMPACTED?

Every year in Georgia, young people—especially those between the ages of 10 to 21—face life-altering consequences after being legally bound to pregnancies and children they never consented to. These individuals, often still navigating school, housing, or basic stability, are forced into lifelong parental and financial responsibilities without a voice in the decision. The result is a growing number of children raised in toxic, high-conflict environments where at least one parent is emotionally disengaged or financially burdened. Many of these children suffer from emotional instability, behavioral issues, and long-term developmental harm. The current legal system fails to recognize that consent to sex is not the same as consent to parenthood, leaving Georgia’s youth—regardless of gender—legally trapped and emotionally unsupported.

WHAT IS AT STAKE?

If nothing changes, thousands more will be subjected to forced parenthood, court battles, and generational trauma, all under a system that ignores modern realities and the right to mutual consent. The mental, emotional, and financial damage ripples through families, disproportionately affecting young parents, their children, and public resources. On the other hand, if this bill is passed, it would establish a legal and ethical framework that allows for voluntary, informed parenthood and guarantees state-backed support for children when one parent opts out. It’s a balanced solution—protecting children while respecting adult autonomy and reducing toxic co-parenting environments.

WHY IS NOW THE TIME TO ACT?

Now is the time to act because Georgia’s legal framework has not kept up with the needs of its citizens—especially its youth. With rising rates of teen pregnancy, delayed adulthood, and emotional health crises among young people, we must enact laws that reflect the realities of modern parenthood. The 2026 legislative session is approaching, and public support will be critical to pushing this bill forward. By signing this petition, you are standing up for child welfare, reproductive fairness, and the right to choose parenthood—not have it forced upon you. Help us make Georgia the first state to lead with compassion, consent, and common sense.

WHAT CAN YOU DO?

Please sign this petition in support of the Child Welfare and Parental Consent Act Bill to have passed as a Georgia law in the 2026 session. This petition will empower legislators in the House of Representatives and Senate—specifically in the Judiciary Committee and Juvenile Justice Committee.

After success is achieved in Georgia with the bill being passed into law, the goal is to expand across all states.
