3 days left!

HB5101 will have its second reading on the house floor on Wednesday, April 9. That means we have 3 days to push our legislators to amend this bill to keep funding for accelerated learning programs. These cuts will impact students in the 2025-26 school year. 
Please continue to share the petition and include your “why”.  Here’s mine:
I took multiple AP classes in high school (my favorites were AP Lit and AP US History).  My older 2 children followed the AP track as well (more well rounded than me though because theirs includes math ☺️), and my youngest is registered for her 1st AP next year.
Advanced Placement courses and Dual Enrollment are 2 of the best ways to ensure rigor in a college application.  Rigor is the expectation at any competitive college (and if you haven’t been through that ringer recently, I assure you it’s a lot more strenuous than it was in the late 1900s☺️).
An added bonus- AP and dual enrollment coursework means students start college with credits already under their belt so they can begin focusing on their major sooner and possibly graduate early (I did).
Similarly, Career Technical Education benefits kids not on the college track by giving them vocational training and job certifications.  Students leave high school ready to start careers in aviation mechanics, construction trades, early childhood education, and food service. My son earned several Microsoft certifications that are nice on a resume while he was a freshman!
Cutting the funding for these programs by 50%, as proposed in FL HB5101, will mean fewer course offerings, more teacher vacancies, and less robust educational opportunities for all Florida kids. That translates to lower school grades, lower properly values and a less desirable place to raise kids. So whether your kids have already graduated, are still in diapers, or you’re child free, you have skin in this game.
