On the 25th of July, a seemingly ordinary  and peaceful day took a dangerous turn for me and my animals.  A huge boom came out of nowhere and the sky lit up.  Fireworks !  My heavily pregnant goats and my terrified horses were sent into an escalating panic and I was  knocked over trying to handle the situation and keep everyone safe. Later in the week upon investigating it was local venue Edgecombe Brothers. There was no warning, no opportunity to safeguard the animals or ourselves, and completely left us in a state of peril.

This situation will unfortunately replicate even closer  at Upper Reach Winery soon 8th August 2026

I recently received a notice in my mailbox informing me that Upper Reach Winery has been granted permission to release fireworks on the 8th of August. Regulations only require them to notify individuals within 200 meters of the launch site, neglecting those beyond this limited radius, like myself, who will need to take extreme measures to protect our animals and wildlife. It is for a private function a “celebration of life “ where the deceased ashes will be launched inside a firework… it is disturbing that this was approved by our council and governing body.

The Swan River is extremely close to the launch site and is home to nesting Black Swans, turtles and other protected and endangered local species .

What about people with trauma associated with loud noises? How can they make arrangements when they don’t even know it’s coming ? 

This careless approach disregards the safety and well-being of countless animals, both domestic and wild, who are defenceless against the startling noises and bright flashes. People, horses, dogs, cats, and native species such as birds and marsupials are often severely affected or even fatally harmed, all due to the unexpected and loud nature of fireworks. This oversight exposes them to trauma, injury, or worse, forcing pet owners and wildlife advocates to take drastic actions with little to no support.

The bottom line is, the current regulations are ineffective. They fail to fully consider the broader community's well-being and the potential impact on natural habitats. A significant change in policies is necessary to prevent such incidents from happening.

We formally address Mayor Tanya Richardson, Deputy Mayor Charlie Zamboni , CEO Stephen Cain who is the person who approves permits for fireworks   of behalf of The City Of Swan on behalf of our community, delegates and voters;

1. Stop further Fireworks permits being approved in The City of Swan and The Swan Valley.

Please join us in urging the City of Swan  and Mayor Tanya Richardson & other government authorities to stop fireworks in The Swan Valley .

Together, we can make our region a safer place for all inhabitants, bringing peace of mind to humans and animals alike.
