Dear Supporter,

Thank you for standing with us in demanding mandatory warning labels on unhealthy packaged food products.

You may have seen my recent opinion piece in The Times of India, titled “GOI, Be Crunchy About Munchies”, where I raised a serious concern that despite growing evidence of how junk food products are driving obesity, diabetes, and heart disease, the government is delaying the implementation of Front-of-Pack (FOPL) labelling—an essential public health tool to protect peoples health.

Here's what’s at stake:

  1. Products high in sugar, salt, and fat continue to flood our markets without clear front warnings.
  2. Powerful food companies are lobbying to weaken or delay the labelling rules.
  3. Meanwhile, millions of children and adults are unknowingly consuming harmful products every day.
  4. The Supreme Court has taken note of this delay and recently asked the government to complete this work in yet another 3 months.
  5. Yet, industry voices seem to carry more weight than public health experts.

This is not just about how unhealthy chips or soft drinks are.

It is about whether people in India have a right to clear information to protect their health and their children’s future, as our Constitution provides.

What You Can Do Now

  • Share the petition with your friends, family, and networks. The more voices we have, the harder we are to ignore.
  • Tag government handles on social media and demand action using:
    #PacketKeAndarKyaHai #WarningLabelsNow #RightToKnow
  • If you haven’t yet, please read and share the op-ed:
  • Together, let’s hold the government accountable. It’s time to put people’s health before corporate profits.

In solidarity,

Dr. Arun Gupta
