Stop fatalities on Courtright Line by implementing rumble strips, round abouts,4-way stops

The Issue

(This is a generic photo from Google for the purposes of portraying the wreckage of a serious accident, not a crime scene photo of an accident at the intersections stated below - statistics show that petitions with an impactful and relevant photo receive more signatures)

The small community of Brigden continues to be negatively impacted by serious and often times fatal accidents on the corners of Mandaumin Sideroad/ Courtright Line and Kimball Sideroad/ Courtright Line by driver's running the stop signs.

Thanksgiving weekend is especially dangerous as the amount of traffic from the Brigden Fair increases the local traffic tenfold and everyone is inevitably in a rush to get to and from the fair and to and from their holiday gatherings.

My spouse is a first responder and has attended at the scenes of a handful of fatalities at these specific intersections since we moved to the area in 2018. It has been at least one fatality a year and yet absolutely no action has been taken by the municipality to prevent this from happening again. Sadly another individual lost their life this weekend at one of these intersections. Although I am confident the appropriate charges will be laid by the OPP at the conclusion of their investigation if there is a driver at fault, that does not bring the victims back to their families and it certainly won't prevent this from happening again in the future.

We need to be assertive in bringing this issue to the attention of the St. Clair Township, the County of Lambton and our municipal leaders (MP, MPP and local councilors) so we can prevent this from happening again. I assure you, it will continue to happen (as history has shown) if we don't take immediate action and stress the importance of implementing the appropriate changes to mitigate future fatal accidents. I am not sure what the ideal solution is but rumble strips, 4-way stops and round abouts have been shown to reduce speed which is a big factor in fatal accidents.

Please take some time to sign this petition so we have the support of Brigden residents and surrounding communities when we bring this issue to the municipality for action. It takes time to get these issues in front of the appropriate people to go on a agenda for a council meeting. My hope is to have this addressed before the weather gets bad and the probability of another serious accident in our community arises.

Thank you for taking the time to read this and showing your support by signing the petition.

My prayers and condolences to all of the families, friends and loved ones of the victims of these tragedies.
