The Issue

It is deeply concerning that the Town of Faith, North Carolina, is allowing a man (Josh Sanders) with an active 50B restraining order, who was recently charged with violating said order, to play live at the upcoming Faith Fair 4th of July event. This decision sends a troubling message of support for individuals who have been legally restrained due to concerns of domestic violence.

In our community, there are numerous victims of domestic violence who suffer in silence, constantly afraid of encountering their abusers. Allowing a performer with such a legal restraint to take center stage not only disrespects the experiences of these victims but also undermines the community's commitment to protecting and uplifting survivors of abuse.

The 50B restraining order, a legal safeguard, is issued under serious circumstances involving threats and acts of domestic violence. The presence of someone with such a recent and active order at a public event is a direct contradiction to the protective measures that society strives to enforce for the safety and well-being of all.

Imagine the distress and fear that could be evoked among attendees who have personal experiences with domestic violence when confronted with the reality that such individuals are held up as entertainers and given a platform. This is not the message that Town of Faith should be projecting.

We kindly urge the event organizers and town officials to reconsider their decision for this year’s Faith Fair. Let’s prioritize the safety and emotional security of our community members by ensuring that performers—representing the town and its values—are individuals whom families can feel confident and comfortable supporting.

Please sign this petition to make it clear that we stand with victims of domestic violence and that we do not condone providing a platform to individuals under active legal restraint. It’s time for a change that reflects our values and offers a safe space for all community members.
