Petition updateUSDA: Stop Exploiting Animals and FarmersFarmers and Chickens Pay the Price for Corporate Greed

Many of you have commented about how you’re concerned about the poultry industry’s treatment of the birds. Yes, it’s true that not only the farmers suffer, but the birds do too.

In addition to keeping thousands of chickens in close quarters, it’s also common practice for chicken companies to force farmers to kill perfectly healthy chickens simply because they don’t meet industry standards. For instance, companies know they won’t be able to use a chicken if it’s too small. So, they tell the farmer they must kill those chickens. In some cases that could be thousands of chickens within a single flock.

Although the farmer may already have a lot invested to raise those chickens, they lose all of the income those birds could have brought and ALSO pay for the time and labor to dispose of the chickens.

The birds and the farmer lose while the company continues to gain.

Here’s a photo showing what happens to chickens that don't meet industry standards. This is just one instance of “a standard industry practices” that farmers could share with the public if we had strong safeguards in place to protect us when telling the truth. Please continue to speak up for farmers and animals by sharing our petition.
