Hello Everyone,
In my first update post I mentioned some of the farmers I met while visiting DC. I want to share one of those farmer’s stories with you today. Carlton is a farmer in Forest, Mississippi. He raised contract chickens for more than 28 years. During that time he was consistently one of the best growers for his company. However, in 2015 his company started requiring him to make expensive upgrades to his facilities and threatened to stop bringing him chickens to raise if he didn’t. Carlton later found out that only the Black farmers in his area were required to make these upgrades. The USDA investigated and found “evidence of unjust discrimination.” Carlton came to DC with our group to share his story of discrimination and speak the truth about these companies.
You can read more about Carlton in the link below and hear him tell his story in the video.
