Dear all,
Firstly, a heartfelt thank you to everyone who has signed and shared our petition calling for a reduction in noise pollution from Carib De L’Afrique in Hastings town centre. Your support has meant a great deal. Reaching over 200 signatures shows how many of us care deeply about creating a peaceful, respectful space for everyone in our community.
Unfortunately, despite the attention this issue has received, including coverage in the Hastings Independent, the volume of the music has steadily increased again. Efforts to find a constructive middle ground have so far been met with resistance.
Most recently, the restaurant owner responded publicly, claiming intimidation and linking the peaceful petition to acts of vandalism and harassment against himself, his staff and his business. We want to make it absolutely clear that we do not condone or support any form of intimidation, vandalism, or unlawful behaviour. This petition was launched in the spirit of respectful, lawful protest and community-minded resolution, and that is where we continue to stand.
Our goal has always been simple. We want to encourage a fair and balanced approach where businesses can thrive, creativity can flourish, and residents and workers can enjoy a basic standard of peace in their own homes and streets. We still believe that is possible.
Please continue to share the petition if you can, and thank you again for standing with us in the hope of a harmonious solution.
