Stop Endangering Families with Unethical Wellness Checks & Medical Kidnapping
The Issue
#StandWithLoveJones Please SIGN, SHARE and COMMENT on our petition to stop the retaliation/unethical treatment against new mother, Black USC doctoral student Kayla Love and family. moreover, stop the endangerment of families caused by UNETHICAL WELLNESS CHECKS, MEDICAL KIDNAPPING, MEDICAL MALPRACTICE.
The medical ethics and laws that LAC- USC, DCFS, LAPD and USC claimed to operate on, ultimately resulted in the endangerment of Kayla Khari and their newborn daughter Fari-Love Jones. They are taking legal action and petitioning against all parties involved in multiple unethical wellness checks that involved 10+ officers and guns drawn at Khari Kayla and their newborn daughter Fari-Love Jones at USC family housing after a home birth. The University has put a hold on her account, denied their request for available student emergency funds, and issued an eviction notice threat from family housing which prevents her continuance in the doctoral program.
As a result they are currently unable to return to their home safely, forcing them to relocate. https://gofund.me/6b1ae4cb
Many families are outraged at this treatment.

Here are more details.
Fari’s mom is Kayla Love of Oakland, CA. Kayla is a first-generation HBCU Langston University college graduate, member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority and a graduate Biochemistry Researcher, completing her P.h.D at the University of Southern California (USC) in Los Angeles. Her father is Khari Jones Jr of Chicago Illinois a first-generation college graduate of Indiana State University, founder of Motivated Purpose Network and a contributing writer for the LA Sentinel.
When they reached out to the Residential Assistant (RA) to discuss safety policies they were retaliated against with a threat of an eviction notice and DPS officers we called to return. They were denied emergency funds designated for students to help with housing, relocating and more to continue their studies. Moreover, a hold has been placed on Kayla’s academic account which prevents her from continuing in the doctoral program and stops her graduate stipend payments designated for her living expenses.
This is not the case for all students according to the University of Southern California Department of Public Safety Daily Incident Log. Here’s a few reports we pulled:
-On 9/11/2021 Neighbors and surveillance observe only 1 officer and 1 staff member standing by at family housing for a welfare check. Residential Assistant states that they and the university will take all necessary steps to help ensure the non-black families safety and well-being.
https://dps.usc.edu/files/2021/09/091321.pdf
-9/1/2021 incident, a different student declines services and officers peacefully leave. https://dps.usc.edu/files/2021/09/090221.pdf
-9/3/2021 during an attempted welfare check, officers are informed that a mother is in contact with her child/student who is deemed fine officers peacefully leave & no further action by officers is reported in the incident. https://dps.usc.edu/files/2021/09/090721.pdf
-8/27/2021
In the public incident report below involving Kayla, Khari, and newborn Fhari. Officers fail to report many important details that are on video surveillance, such as officer involvement, number of officers (10+), unlawful arrest, guns being drawn, the multiple times they returned, any mention of the child’s parents, and much more. Still you can see that student affairs & judicial affairs who failed to reach out to Kayla’s and Khari, were informed that their child is in good health.
https://dps.usc.edu/files/2021/06/062821.pdf
Officers and social workers continued to return, in attempts to take their child and further harass them without just cause, yet no further incident report is being filed by officers. Khari and Kayla cannot return safely to their home, forcing them to relocate. They are taking legal action and standing their ground against discriminatory unethical treatment. They are also petitioning to help provide safe outcomes for families. Your support can make a difference. Please sign this petition, let’s work together for change.
We petition for:
1. Appropriate termination of all parties involved in endangering Kayla Love, Khari Jones, and their daughter Fari Love-Jones starting with those that are trained but failed to provide a reasonable cause to report concerns based on facts, which is expected of mandated reporters and required by and law: Assembly bill 2380. Also, reasonable supportive measures including compensation, and removal of academic holds/fees.
2. RIGHT TO CHOOSE: “A possibility” of needing medical treatment must not be used to overreach “reasonable cause” in a way that infringes on the rights that protect people from unwanted medical treatment. and their right to choose their medical provider.
2. STOPPING FORCED TREATMENT: When no one is in any apparent danger and there is no “reasonable cause” to suspect danger, force of treatment must not be used based on “possibilities of danger” or irrational reasoning without facts.
3. PREVENT FALSE/ INACCURATE REPORTS: To help prevent endangerment caused by false or inaccurate reports by mandated reporters, Reasonable notice (to the person who reporters are seeking to help) must be made before filing a report. When concerning minors, if both active parents are available and coherent, both parents must be informed of any medical/safety recommendations made for their children.
4. UTILIZE TRAINING. Use training on what are reasonable vs unreasonable causes to file or recommend an incident report, to ensure competency and prevent false or inaccurate reports by mandated reporters.
