"Stop El Monte Union school board from taking away facilities from special ed. students

The Issue

Last year, the El Monte Union High School board voted to move adult special education students from their current Granada site to a newer and better Rosemead campus. Now a current board member, Esthela de Siegrist who works at Pasadena City College has pushed for a new vote to take place to have Pasadena City College continue to rent the facility from El Monte Union High School District, instead of having the adult transition students move in, once the the facility has completed modifications for the adult transition students in the district. What de Siegrist did may be a violation of the California Public Reform Act according to California Common Cause as de Siegrist has a potential conflict of interest as an employee of Pasadena City College. Also, by three of the five current board members voting to overturn the prior vote, they are costing El Monte district taxpayers 1 million dollars in bond money already spent to begin the modifications, as well as another $200,000 to $300,000 that will be "thrown away" by the board by stopping the process. Pasadena College doesn't plan to continue to rent the facility after another 6 or 7 years. This action shows discrimination towards the adult transition students in the district who are currently at inferior facilities, as well as contempt for El Monte taxpayers who hard-earned tax dollars are wasted. I have also attached a newspaper article by Jason Henry to get more information. Please sign the petition against this vote by the school board. Also, you can  email board members to express your thoughts. Esthela de Siegrist at esthela.desiegrist@emuhsd.org and Ricardo Padilla at ricardo.padilla@emuhsd.org. Thank you.
