Stop EEOC Chair Andrea Lucas from removing protections for pregnant workers
The Issue
Pregnant workers deserve basic protections!
Across the United States, pregnant workers often face discrimination and risk their health due to inadequate workplace protections. The Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) plays a critical role in safeguarding our rights, and enacted a law to protect pregnant workers. It says pregnant people can drink water when thirsty, sit down when tired, use the bathroom when needed, etc. aka basic human needs! These protections have been vital in reducing the stress and health risks faced by pregnant workers.
However, the new EEOC Chair Andrea Lucas has never fully supported these protections. And under her leadership, there is now a concerning push to roll them back. Reports have emerged indicating attempts to weaken the policies that guarantee reasonable accommodations and protect pregnant people from discrimination.
Picture someone eight months pregnant, on their feet all day, being denied a chair because their manager says "the rules changed". Picture them holding their bladder for hours because breaks are not required anymore. No pregnant person should have to choose between their paycheck and their safety!
We cannot allow these policy changes to happen! We are calling on EEOC Chair Andrea Lucas to protect every pregnant worker in America by maintaining all reasonable protections in the Pregnant Workers Fairness Act.
By signing this petition, you help send a powerful message to Chair Andrea Lucas and the EEOC - pregnant workers deserve protection, support, and care.
Let's work together to ensure that no one has to choose between their job and their health. Sign this petition to demand that the EEOC uphold protections for pregnant workers!
