Stop Earnhardt Industrial Park

Stop Earnhardt Industrial Park
The Issue
A recent proposal for a 400 acre industrial park rezoning has been brought to Mooresville town zoning board and the board of commissioners. The proposed area is a 400 acre tract of wooded land expanding from the intersection of CBS Lane and Patterson Farm Road to 383 Rustic Road in Mooresville, NC. This land is currently zoned as Rural/Agricultural, and is owned by Teresa Earnhardt and Earnhardt Farms, the respective widow and estate of late NASCAR driver and avid outdoorsman Dale Earnhardt Sr.
At the Mooresville zoning board meeting, the developer and representative of Earnhardt could not provide a set plan nor goal for the rezoning, but instead stated they are seeking an "unrestricted rezoning". The current idea is to house a potential data center, but they would like an unrestricted rezone in case of "changing plans". This would also include annexation of Mooresville town limits around the site, putting the surrounding community in Mooresville town limits.
The goal of this petition is to show opposition to the plan to rezone, and to keep the land designated as R/A. The Patterson Farm Road community is a rural, two lane road occupied by farmland and single family homes, with multiple low weight bridges and a non maintained road. The Rustic Road community is a dead end road with multiple single family homes, most of which surround a proposed entrance/exit for this unplanned industrial park. The current infrastructure in the surrounding communities can barely support the current population, much less the addition of a 400 acre industrial park. The property in question is also in a watershed and crosses Coddle Creek, which flows directly into a reservoir for the cities of Kannapolis and Concord. Removal of 400 acres of trees and mass grading will cause major environmental impact not only for the watershed, but for local wildlife as well. Something the late Earnhardt Sr. would have never wished. Annexation of the surrounding communities would also triple the taxes on the residents, which could potentially see many residents losing their homes, most of which have been passed down through generations and even some that have been owned for over a century.
