Stop Dyeing The Hillsborough River Green

Stop Dyeing The Hillsborough River Green
The Issue
Please see below for update on info we received about the chemical used in the Hillsborough River.
For almost 15 years the City of Tampa puts Green “Dye” into the Hillsborough River for St Pattys Days.
This dye is claimed to be environmentally safe, because it is used for eye surgery. Believe it or not, dying the river a completely different color affects wildlife activity along the river.
As a fishing guide in Tampa Bay, you can physically see how this manipulation of the river affects how fish, birds, dolphins etc eat and interact with other wildlife.
The Hillsborough River is 27,000 years old, and it’s taken humans about 60 years to fill it with garbage, sewage and now completely changing the color of the water.
I started this petition with the hope that the City of Tampa will recognize that Tampa Residents and visitors can celebrate St. Patrick’s day without changing the color of an entire river.
Through a records request with The City of Tampa, we have found out the chemical powder used to dye the river is called…
“Bright Dyes® FLT Yellow/Green Tablet”
Under the Safety Sheet for the chemical it states
“Environmental Precautions: Prevent from entering into soil, ditches, sewers, waterways and or ground water”
Ill try to get the entire Safety Sheet copied and pasted to the petition page.
