Stop Dutchess County's Overburdening City of Poughkeepsie with Even More Homeless Shelters
The Issue
PETICION PARA PREVENIR EL DESARROLLO DE REFUGIOS DEL CONDADO EN 26 OAKLEY Y EN LA CARCEL DE HAMILTON NORTE LOCALIZADA EN LA CUIDAD DE POUGHKEEPSIE!!!
Please sign this petition to urge Dutchess County and NYS to reconsider actions which further concentrate the majority of the County mental health and substance abuse services and related housing in the City of Poughkeepsie. For too long the County and State has sent people in need of shelter and related services to The City of Poughkeepsie.
This has created a burden for the City, especially for the families and children on the impoverished Northside, and has discouraged economic development. Surrounding towns and counties need to do their fair share of care for distressed peoples.
The County's plan to construct a new 120 bed transitional shelter at 26 Oakley St and renovate the old jail on North Hamilton as an emergency shelter will be a crushing blow to The City of Poughkeepsie, which already hosts a disproportionate number of shelters and related services.
We urge the County to find a location outside of the City and to consider other more innovative solutions such as rural or scatter sites that will provide better, more healthful environments for those battling addiction and mental health issues.
Por favor de firmar esta petición para urgirle al Condado de Dutchess, y al Estado de Nueva York reconsideren acciones que se concentren en desarrollar servicios para la mayoría de los individuos que sufren de salud mental, abuso de substancias y en viviendas asequibles en la Cuidad de Poughkeepsie.
Por mucho tiempo el Condado y el Estado ha enviado personas en necesidad de refugios y servicios relacionados a La Cuidad de Poughkeepsie. Esto ha creado una carga para la Cuidad, en particular para las familias y niños en la comunidad empobrecida en el lado Norte, desanimando desarrollo económico.
Le urgimos al Condado que consiga un local fuera del a cuidad y considere otras soluciones innovadoras tales como, rurales o emplazamientos dispersos que provean mejores ambientes saludables para esos combatiendo adiciones y problemas de salud mental.
