Stop Dumping Dead Animals Like Trash — Demand India’s First Humane Farewell Centres

Stop Dumping Dead Animals Like Trash — Demand India’s First Humane Farewell Centres
The Issue
A National Campaign to Establish Animal Cremation & Memorial Centres Across India
- Led by The Punjabiyat Foundation
The Problem No One Wants to Talk About
Across India, animals are dying in silence, and worse, they are disappearing in death without dignity.
Some of these animals are cherished companions — pets who brought comfort, loyalty, and unconditional love to their families. Others are strays — born into a world of indifference, surviving harsh conditions, only to die forgotten on the side of a road.
But no matter how they lived, what unites them is how they are treated after they die.
Instead of being honoured, their bodies are often:
Thrown into garbage dumps, alongside household waste
Left to decay in public spaces, near schools, roads, or colonies
Burned in the open, with no regulation, no care, and no respect
This is a silent crisis happening in every city, every town, and every village — yet it remains unspoken, unseen, and ignored. And the cost is far greater than emotional heartbreak.
Why This Is a National Emergency
❗ Public Health Risk: Decomposing animal bodies carry bacteria and viruses that can spread to humans and other animals. Inadequate disposal near water bodies or residential areas can contaminate resources and trigger disease outbreaks.
❗ Environmental Hazard: Open burning releases toxic fumes, contributes to air pollution, and adds to climate stress.
❗ Moral & Ethical Failure: As a society, we cannot claim to be compassionate, civilised, or humane if we treat the voiceless dead like garbage.
Families grieving their pets deserve more than this.
Stray animals, who lived without care, deserve at least dignity in death.
What We’re Demanding
The Punjabiyat Foundation is launching a national call to action for the creation of Animal Cremation and Afterlife Care Centres across India.
We propose that these centres be developed in partnership with local municipal bodies, state animal welfare boards, and civil society organisations. They must be:
✅ Modern & Hygienic – Equipped with proper cremation technology (electric or gas-based), away from residential zones but accessible to the public
✅ Inclusive – Open to both pet families and stray animal recovery teams
✅ Environmentally Responsible – No open burning, no dumping, no polluting
✅ Emotionally Supportive – Spaces for families to say a proper goodbye, with dignity and care
✅ Sustainably Funded – Backed by state funding, CSR contributions, and optional nominal fees for pet owners
Why It Matters to You
🐾 Because your pet deserves a dignified farewell when the time comes.
🐾 Because you’ve seen stray dogs or cows lying dead by the roadside — and felt helpless.
🐾 Because you care about clean cities, disease-free streets, and a more compassionate India.
🐾 Because grief is real, and every life — big or small, voiceless or vocal — deserves to be honoured.
What This Campaign Represents
This is not just a plea for better infrastructure.
It’s not just about pet loss or animal rights.
This is a movement for human responsibility, for a nation that claims to value life, culture, and compassion.
India can and must set an example for the world by saying:
“In our country, even the smallest life matters — even in death.”
We often speak of being the land of ahimsa — non-violence.
But true non-violence must extend not only to how we treat the living, but also how we part with the dead.
Let’s Lead with Compassion. Let’s Build with Purpose.
Join The Punjabiyat Foundation in demanding that every state and major city in India commits to building:
- Animal cremation centres
- Pet memorial parks
- Safe disposal systems for stray animal remains
- Public awareness around post-death dignity for animals
- Let us no longer look away.
- Let us no longer wait for tragedy or outrage.
- Let us act — now, together, and with heart.

🐾 Let’s give animals what they’ve always deserved, dignity, even after death.
