The Issue

Justice for James & Leisa Reese – End Wrongful Prosecution and Demand Accountability

---

Their Story

James Reese and Leisa Reese, a father and stepmother, have been sitting in jail for months without fair treatment or meaningful help from the justice system. They are not hardened criminals — they are a family who fell into the crosshairs of a broken system that chooses to stack charges instead of seeking truth, silence instead of justice.

---

Systemic Failures

From the beginning, this case has been riddled with violations, negligence, and gross omissions:

Grand Jury Manipulation: Crucial facts — including an illegal, warrantless search, unverified tips, and questionable photographs — were completely omitted when the grand jury decided charges. The story they were told was one-sided, misleading, and unjust.

Public Defender Neglect: Instead of fighting for their rights, their assigned counsel has shown little urgency or care. Motions that should have been filed were ignored. Promises of updates went unfulfilled. The very lawyers who should protect their rights are letting them be crushed by the system.

Stacked Charges & Overreach: Prosecutors have piled on charges, twisting circumstances into a narrative that paints James and Leisa as far more than the evidence supports.

Inhumane Detention: Since their arrests, they have endured months of incarceration without clarity — vague communication about court dates, delays with no explanation, and no path forward. They remain locked away while their rights are trampled.

---

Why This Matters

This case isn’t just about James and Leisa. It’s about every family in South Dakota who has been steamrolled by a system more interested in convictions than justice. If courts can omit evidence, ignore due process, and silence defense, then no one is safe.

---

Our Demands

We call on the South Dakota Attorney General, the Pennington County State’s Attorney, and local courts to:

1. Investigate the misconduct in how this case was presented to the grand jury.

2. Ensure fair legal representation for James and Leisa.

3. Review and dismiss charges that were improperly stacked or built on omitted/tainted evidence.

4. Provide transparency about court proceedings and immediate clarity on their legal status.

---

Call to Action

James and Leisa are more than docket numbers. They are parents, family, and community members whose lives are being destroyed by a justice system that has failed its duty.

Please sign and share this petition. Together, we can hold South Dakota accountable, demand transparency, and push for justice — not just for James and Leisa, but for every person steamrolled by this broken system.

✊ We will not be silent. We will not stop fighting.
