GREENVILLE COUNTY, S.C. (FOX Carolina) - The Greenville County Planning Commission voted 8-1 Wednesday night to deny the 2024 proposed Owens Glen subdivision in Piedmont, marking the second denial in two years for the project that would bring hundreds of homes to the rural community.

Cheers erupted from residents wearing red who packed the meeting room, with others joining virtually from across Piedmont.

A representative for the developers, Forestar and D.R. Horton, declined to discuss the project during the meeting, citing a pending appeal.

“I would like to note that I will not be commenting on this item today. An appeal has been filed with a circuit court, and as a result, I don’t believe this is the proper forum to be discussing this matter,” the representative said.

After a brief moment of confusion, commissioners decided to move forward with the vote without additional comment from the developer.

Residents say they are prepared for what comes next.

“We’ll be back to fight them again. We might see them in court,” Wygladalski said.
