Every semester, millions of animals are killed worldwide for academic use in dissections. Cats, turtles, dogs, frogs, fetal pigs, and many other animals are slaughtered inhumanely. While many claim that dissection is an essential part of learning in biology laboratories, much research has shown that digital dissections are just as effective at teaching these concepts. Digital dissections also prevent unneccessary killing of animals, reduce waste both ecologically and financially, as well as protect students' physical and mental health. 

At UIC, dissections are commonplace in biology labs across campus. By signing this petition, you are giving a voice to other animals that are being exploited here at UIC, helping urge our school policymakers to put a stop to dissection.
