🚫 Stop Digital Deception: We Just Want to Know What’s Real
To: Meta (including Instagram), TikTok, YouTube, and X   😵

We Honestly Can’t Tell What’s Real Anymore As high school students, we spend hours every day on our phones—scrolling through news, trending videos, and whatever shows up on our feeds. Recently, some of our friends shared videos that looked exactly like real news reports. People reacted in the comments, reposted them, and some even started to panic. Later, we found out those videos were completely AI-generated.

No one noticed at first. And honestly, that’s what scared us. AI is getting so realistic that it’s becoming really hard to tell what’s real and what’s fake. But right now, platforms like YouTube, TikTok, and Instagram don’t clearly show whether something was made by AI or by a real person.
⚠️ This Is More Than Just Getting Fooled Online
This isn’t just about a post being fake.

Here in Monterey County, seniors lost $97,000 after someone used an AI-generated voice that sounded like someone they trusted. Students across the country are also dealing with AI deepfake images and videos being shared without their permission at school. When we can’t tell what’s real anymore, it becomes easier for scams, bullying, and misinformation to spread online.

We should be able to know what we’re watching.

🚦 Our Idea: The "Traffic Light" Labeling System

We’re not trying to ban AI—we know it can be helpful. We just want an easy way to tell if what we’re watching is real or AI-generated.

We’re proposing a simple color label system that anyone can understand:

AI Nutrition Label: AI use 🟢 🟡 🔴 and AI Elements 👤 🎤 📖 🖼 📍 🎬 🎨 🎵

🟢 Green — Minimal AI: Human-Led, Small edits like captions, lighting adjustments, or color correction

🟡 Yellow —  AI-Enhanced: Human-Led+AI assistance, Includes AI elements like avatars, backgrounds, or voiceovers

🔴 Red — AI Generated: People, voices, or entire videos created completely by AI.

(Accessibility: Use 🔵 🟠 🟣 or ✅ ⚠️ 🤖 for color-blindness).

Online content should tell us what we’re actually seeing.
