IMPORTANT UPDATE – ANWYL HAVE NOW SUBMITTED A PLANNING APPLICATION FOR THE GREEN LANE GREEN BELT FIELDS
We are writing to update you on a significant development in our campaign to protect the Green Lane Green Belt.
Anwyl have now submitted a full planning application to Sefton Council for a proposed housing development on the Green Lane fields. The application was received by the Council on 14 July 2026 under planning reference DC/2026/01232.
You can view the application and all of the supporting documents by searching for planning reference DC/2026/01232 on the Sefton Council planning portal (DC/2026/01232 | Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) Screening Opinion for an outline planning application for residential development, open space, associated works and infrastructure (all matters reserved save for means of access). | Land At Green Lane Maghull Sefton)
We are particularly concerned that the consultation period closes on 4 August 2026, yet many residents remain unaware that the application has been submitted. To date, there has been very little public awareness of the proposal, and many residents have not received any notification.
One of the most concerning aspects of Anwyl's submission is its attempt to describe these fields as Grey Belt.
We strongly dispute this. The Green Lane fields are Grade A1 agricultural land within the Green Belt. They are actively farmed, provide an important green space for wildlife and our community, and are not allocated for development within Sefton's current adopted Local Plan. We firmly believe this planning application should be refused.

What we need you to do
While the Green Lane Green belt committee is preparing a comprehensive objection covering every planning issue in detail on your behalf, we now need as many individual objections submitted from residents across maghull and lydiate as possible.
Please visit the Sefton Council planning portal and search for planning application DC/2026/01232.
Open the application, click on the "Comments" tab, enter your details, select the "Oppose" option and submit your comments. You can write up to 2,000 words if you wish.
Please don't worry if you don't have time to write a detailed objection. Even a short comment will make a difference. For example:
"I wish to oppose planning application DC/2026/01232 for the proposed housing development on the Green Lane Green Belt fields. These are active farming fields and Grade A1 agricultural land within the Green Belt. The site is not allocated for development within Sefton's current Local Plan and I believe this planning application should be refused."
If you wish, you can also explain why these fields are important to you personally and how this development would affect your family or the wider community.
Every objection submitted through the planning portal becomes part of the official planning record. The more residents who formally register their opposition, the stronger the message it sends to Sefton Council about the strength of feeling within our community.
Please ensure your comments are submitted before the consultation closes on 4 August 2026.

Thank you once again for your continued support.
