Stop Development of Bicentennial Marker in Sydney Olympic Park

Stop Development of Bicentennial Marker in Sydney Olympic Park
The issue
Save our public green space and iconic landmark
The NSW Government’s new Master Plan threatens to erase one of Sydney Olympic Park’s landmarks: the Bicentennial Marker.
The Marker is one of five hills dotted around Sydney Olympic Park arranged in the shape of the Southern Cross.
They propose to replace it with a towering 36-story complex that will further alter the skyline, block sunlight, and rob the community of public green space.
We strongly object to the following:
- Loss of Historic Green Space: The Bicentennial Marker, an important part of Sydney’s Olympic legacy and a valued green landmark, would be permanently lost to this development.
- Strain on Local Infrastructure: Increased density will place further pressure on local resources, potentially impacting traffic, parking, and access to public spaces for all residents.
- Disturbing Contaminated Waste: The Bicentennial Marker and surrounding sports fields are built on contaminated landfill.
- Loss of Light, Views and Privacy: The proposed 36-story development will reduce natural light, block current views and compromise the privacy of residents facing the Bicentennial Marker.
- Destruction of Community Character: While development is part of growth, it must be targeted and respectful of existing green spaces that provide a sense of history and community.
Join us in preserving Sydney Olympic Park’s green spaces, our shared history, and our health. Sign this petition to demand that the NSW Government abandon this plan, prioritise our community, our environment, and our heritage.
Together, we can protect this cherished green space and ensure future generations experience the beauty and legacy of Sydney Olympic Park as it was meant to be.
