The Issue

We, the undersigned parents, educators, students, and concerned community members of Bridgeport, Connecticut demand that Governor Ned Lamont and our elected leaders fully fund our schools and reject the devastating budget cuts proposed for Bridgeport Public Schools.

Our schools and our children are facing unacceptable reductions, including:

  1. Elimination of ALL assistant principals.
  2. Removal of ALL librarians.
  3. Cuts to essential support staff such as guidance counselors and social workers.
  4. Doubling of class sizes, leaving teachers overwhelmed and students unsupported.
  5. Elimination of bus services, forcing high school students to walk up to two miles to school!!
  6. Deep reductions to academic, emotional, and extracurricular supports.

These cuts will harm every aspect of our students’ lives:

  • Larger class sizes will make it harder for students to learn and get individual attention, hurting academic achievement and test scores.
  • Loss of librarians, counselors, and social workers will take away vital resources for literacy, mental health, college readiness, and career guidance.
  • Elimination of buses will create safety concerns and increase absenteeism.
  • Our community as a whole will feel the long-term effects of underfunded and unsupported schools.

We call on Governor Lamont, our State Representatives, Mayor Ganim, Cith Council Members, and the Board of Education to fully fund Bridgeport Public Schools and ensure that our students have access to safe, supportive, and well-resourced learning environments.

Invest in our children, our teachers, and the future of Bridgeport. Reject these harmful cuts. Fully fund our schools NOW!!!
