The city of Växjö was once a beautiful place, with classic architecture buildings. As in many other cities, the politicians and council employed architects, have felt a need to put themselves on the city map by destroying old, still healthy buildings and replace them with what they call modern ones. These so-called modern ones have a huge resemblance with toy bricks, having flat sides with only a few sharp structures on them. More or less glass and windows which make these buildings look harsh and frigid and very misplaced in their surroundings. At the moment there are houses being built in the middle of the city center, big ugly, dark, square blocks, and now city council wants to replace the city hall as well with a new huge and ugly building. It seems that the politicians have a hard time listening to the opinions of the citizens when it comes to which type of buildings we prefer, it seems that there is a 'mutual admiration society' within the architect world in Sweden, as well as in the city council. This group of people is so determined to build another ugly building that they are denying some architects from sending in contributions to their so-called 'architect contest', just to make certain that their own idea for the new city hall shall win, and the opinions from us the citizens won't have a chance to even be seen.
My hope is that this petition shall generate many signatures as to show the decision makers that we, the citizens care about our city and that we don't approve of getting anymore ugly, so called modern buildings built. I hope that we can make the politicians listen and follow our opinions, the citizens who are paying their salaries.
