Stop destroying South Warwickshire with unnecessary housing

The Issue

Lapworth is the most beautiful, rural village—a haven of greenery, community, and tranquility. However, this idyllic character is under serious threat. South Warwickshire has been targeted for excessive housing developments, with three critical sites in Lapworth and Kingswood earmarked for construction. This means more concrete and less nature, which could forever destroy the charm and character that make Lapworth unique.

Recently, we learned that these areas have been reclassified from Green Belt—a designation meant to prevent urban sprawl and protect our natural environment—to Grey Belt, thus opening them up for development. This reclassification is alarming and unacceptable. It prioritizes short-term gains over long-term environmental sustainability and community well-being.

Development should be sustainable and respectful of community wishes, not at the expense of our environment. According to reports, the UK has enough brownfield and unused urban sites to meet housing demands without encroaching on green spaces like Lapworth. This is about more than just housing; it’s about preserving the identity and livelihoods of those who call these places home.

We have a critical opportunity to voice our opposition. On the 1st of June, 44 District Councillors will be reviewing and voting on these proposals. We need to stand together and make our voices heard loud and clear. This is not just about Lapworth or Kingswood; it's about the future of all of South Warwickshire and beyond.

The preservation of the Green Belt is not only crucial for maintaining the beauty and environmental health of the area but also supports biodiversity, ensures cleaner air, and offers residents and visitors alike natural spaces to enjoy.

Help save Lapworth, Kingswood, and other parts of South Warwickshire from unnecessary and damaging developments.

Hatton, Hockley Heath and Henley-in-Arden, to name but a few, are also all under the most serious threats of development.

Please sign this petition to urge our councillors to reject the reclassification from Green Belt to Grey Belt and preserve our precious natural heritage. Let's act now before it's too late.
