Stop Deforestation in the Philippines

Stop Deforestation in the Philippines
The Issue
I'm a native Filipino who is concerned by the rampant deforestation in the Philippines. The country has become more prone to landslides and floods due to illegal deforestation. This is not just an environmental issue, but a human rights issue as well, affecting millions of people who depend on these forests for their livelihoods and survival.
The Philippines is one of the world's most heavily forested countries, but it is losing its forests at an alarming rate. According to Global Forest Watch, from 2001 to 2020, the Philippines lost 2Mha of tree cover, equivalent to a 9% decrease since 2000 (Global Forest Watch). This loss has severe consequences for biodiversity and climate change.
Deforestation also worsens social inequalities. Indigenous communities who rely on these forests are often displaced without their consent or compensation. Furthermore, deforestation contributes significantly to climate change by releasing large amounts of carbon dioxide into the atmosphere.
We must act now before it's too late. We call upon our government officials and international organizations to implement stricter laws against illegal logging activities and promote sustainable forestry practices that respect both nature and human rights.
Please sign this petition if you believe in preserving our planet for future generations while respecting indigenous rights today.
