The Issue

Without notice, Monongalia County has decided to tear down trees and disrupt our hillside and community to relocate their county fair. Significant deforestation has already occurred right in our backyards. The neighborhood is not suitable for the amount of traffic and people that the fair will bring to our area. This petition serves to voice our concern and protect our community and environment.

The abrupt decision to relocate the county fair to our area has raised significant concerns among residents. Our community is known for its lush greenery and tranquil environment, qualities that are now threatened by this unexpected development. The deforestation not only destroys the habitats of numerous wildlife species but also contributes to soil erosion and increases the risk of landslides, which can have devastating effects on local homes and infrastructure.

Moreover, our neighborhood infrastructure cannot accommodate the increased traffic and influx of people a county fair attracts. The narrow roads are not designed to handle a large volume of vehicles, raising safety concerns for pedestrians, especially children, who often play in these areas.

Relocating the county fair is unnecessary and environmentally harmful. Instead, we propose holding the fair at its original location or exploring alternative sites that are more suitable and already equipped for such events. Proper engagement with the community and thorough environmental impact assessments must be conducted before making decisions that affect our ecosystem and quality of life.

We urge Monongalia County officials to reconsider their plans for the fairgrounds, prioritize environmental sustainability, and respect the voices of the residents. Please sign this petition to protect our trees, wildlife, and the well-being of our community.
