The Issue

Living on Long Island, I have witnessed firsthand the challenges our communities face concerning resources and quality of life. The prospect of new data centers being built in Yaphank and the Brookhaven Lab areas is alarming to me and to many other local residents. We already endure some of the highest electricity costs in the country, and the addition of these data centers will place even more strain on our already overburdened electrical grid. This is a pressing concern that cannot be ignored.

Furthermore, data centers are notorious for their immense water consumption. With Long Island's water resources being finite, allowing more developments that heavily consume water is both irresponsible and unsustainable. Our region should be working towards conservation and sustainability, not pushing the limits of our natural resources.

The potential increase in noise pollution is another serious issue. Data centers operate 24/7, generating constant hums and vibrations from cooling systems and backup generators. This will undeniably disturb the peace of our neighborhoods, making it harder for community members to enjoy their homes in tranquility.

The quality of life in our communities is at stake. We must collectively voice our concerns and protect our environment and resources. By preventing the construction of these data centers, we can safeguard our communities and ensure a sustainable future for Long Island.

Sign this petition to prevent the construction of data centers in Yaphank and the Brookhaven Lab areas and help preserve the quality of life and resources on Long Island. Together, we can make a difference.
