Stop Cultural Appropriation

The Issue

Since the introduction of alcohol, Indigenous people have fought years of trauma, stereotypes and negative association to this poison. It is inappropriate to display a teepee, a significant element of Indigenous people, in a drinking establishment. Shuga's Bar continues to ignore multiple requests from Indigenous community members to remove the teepee from the establishment.

This element is displayed by Shuga's Bar, a Non-Indigenous owned establishment, and referred to as chic and retro with the tag line of "sexy bar for a crazy night". This element holds sacred value, as it was provided by the buffalo. The same buffalo dominant culture killed millions of in yet another attempt to erase an entire culture after settling on Indigenous land.

The cultural appropriation displayed by Shuga's Bar disregards cultural history of Indigenous peoples and needs to be removed. Show your support help keep Indigenous elements appreciated not appropriated.
