Dear Save Crossness Nature Reserve Supporters,
Thank you for the support for our campaign. If you are in the London area we have a fundraiser at Lesnes Abbey Lodge on Saturday 2 November 2pm - 4pm and there are still a few tickets left here:
Save Crossness Nature Reserve Fundraiser Tickets
The main news is we have received notice of the preliminary hearing 5 - 7 November into Cory's proposals to build a carbon capture plant on our nature reserve. Thanks to generous support, we are represented by a planning solicitor from Planning Voice at the Southwark Law Centre and a barrister from Garden Court Chambers. Donations are still accepted through: www.crowdjustice.com/case/scnr
We are in the process of agreeing our strategy and will be challenging Cory on many points including:
Ecological damage of building the carbon capture plant
Cory’s proposed biodiversity improvements on the Norman Road Field risk replacing existing biodiversity with new ones – this is not an improvement.
Cory’s proposals to increase public access will create a risk of biodiversity harm from fracturing of green space and human intervention.
Land Rights - The graziers are members of the Romani community, whose families have historic ties to the land for multiple generations. The loss of grazing rights must be viewed in an equalities context.
Our solicitor, barrister and members of our campaign will speak at all relevant hearings and we believe we have a strong challenge.
There are many deadlines and hearings before the examiners final submission to the Secretary of State for Energy Security & Net Zero, currently 5 May 2025.
Thank you so much for your continued support, please share the petition and campaign details.
