The Issue

UPDATE:

The City of Kennewick is now proposing a half and half compromise. One hockey goal, one Futsal goal. This decision isn't finalized (or at least it's now getting another look). I think it's important to keep signing to show support for leaving it alone entirely and/or providing one or two city procured hockey goals. Hopefully when the decision is being made, this petition will be utilized as part of that process.

Every season, I find immense joy in spending time at the roller hockey rink in Kennewick, WA, whether it's spending time with my wife shooting pucks, bonding with my nephew and his friends who are just beginning their hockey journeys, or meeting with other friends. This space is far more than just a rink; it's a cherished haven for the Tri-Cities hockey community, encompassing kids and adults alike, who use it to gather for camaraderie and practice during the ice hockey offseason, learn and teach hockey basics without paying for expensive ice time, and even book it to celebrate birthdays with roller hockey gatherings.

The decision to convert this single dedicated roller hockey rink into a Futsal court (2 available in Pasco) would be a disservice to our community. Kennewick and its surrounding areas offer various other soccer facilities, providing other options for soccer enthusiasts. In contrast, this small and dedicated space is the only roller hockey rink that serves the entire local community. Losing this unique facility would mean stripping away a vital space for growth, learning, and a shared love for roller hockey.

Roller hockey is a sport that encourages inclusivity and health, fostering a spirit of teamwork and fitness among all age groups. It is vital for the youth and families in our area to have access to diverse recreational options, especially those like roller hockey, which is on the rise in popularity across different states.

I urge the local authorities and decision-makers to recognize the value of the unique roller hockey community that thrives because of this rink. Let us preserve a space that promotes healthy, accessible, and communal activities, especially in these times when maintaining both physical and mental well-being is crucial.

Sign this petition to voice your support for keeping Kennewick's roller hockey rink as it is, to ensure that future generations can experience the joy, excitement, and community spirit it offers. Let's protect an essential part of our community's recreational landscape.
