Petition updateStop contaminated cabin air in aircraft!Lufthansa A380 - 26 October 2018

We don’t know how many people were injured on this flight (click on the link below for full details) but it is clear that the flight crew and flight attendants were taken to a hospital. Many people ask why is it in most cases with Fume Events that the Flight and Cabin Crew are injured/go to hospital and not the passengers?
1. The crew are already working in a pressurised environment (not sitting or relaxing) which means their bodies are already working harder - did you know that working 1 hour in an aircraft is the equivalent to working 2 hours on the ground?
2. it is very possible that some of the crew may have been involved in a Fume Event before and were made very ill. It is important for crew to get to a hospital to have bloods taken and their carbon monoxide level tested plus any other tests the hospital can do to determine exposure (for proof that they were exposed on the aircraft) as many airlines still deny that Fume Events happen and state that their aircraft are safe. Unfortunately there are very few tests available at this time to determine exposure, even in the U.K. - if you present yourself to A&E it is doubtful you will be sent to a toxicology department because the staff in A&E departments have still not been informed of the dangers of exposure to aircraft oil fumes.
3. Most Crew now know of colleagues who have died very young or who can no longer work due to exposure to contaminated air onboard aircraft. Those exposed and badly injured know that it is no longer safe for them to operate an aircraft or to continue working as cabin crew. They also know that any future Fume Events could cause further damage to their body or be fatal. They have to leave their job and receive no compensation from their employer. Those who do receive compensation usually have to accept a ‘gagging order’ with it to prevent them from speaking out in the future.
3. Passengers may be unaware they have been in a Fume Event as airlines do not have to inform passengers when there has been a Fume Event onboard an aircraft. Some may start symptoms a few days or weeks later and will never make the connection to the flight they took because they were not informed. The Fumes from aircraft oil contain toxic Organophosphates and volatile organic compounds (VOC’s) such as Benzene, Toluene, Xylene, n-Heptane and many more (all very dangerous to human health) which will affect people in different ways depending on their own ‘make-up’ or their body’s ability to process and eliminate the toxins. Sadly with passengers, it is normally infants and the elderly or those already suffering from lung or heart conditions who are immediately affected during these Fume Events.

Please sign and share this petition. This has to stop. Filters and sensors have to be fitted to all bleed air aircraft to stop this insanity.
