The Issue

The city of Springboro, renowned for its historical charm, is currently facing a potential threat that could tarnish its appeal and adversely affect its residents. The proposed construction, re-zoning and enhancements of a concrete batch plant in close proximity to the historic district is raising significant concerns among the community.

High Concrete Group has approached the City of Springboro to rezone a section of South Richards Run to permit them to build a new concrete batch plant at the corner of Duval Drive and South Richards Run.  This new concrete batch plant will result in more truck traffic, greater noise levels, pollution in the form of particulate matter and erosion of property values for the residents surrounding this area.  There are 2 Springboro Schools less than a half mile from the existing plant so If High Concrete is allowed to expand or build a new concrete batch plant, what is the negative effect on our children?  This petition specifies steadfast opposition regardless of whether High Concrete requests the rezoning of South Richards Run or the construction of a new batch plant in their existing location.  Either approach by High Concrete will have a detrimental effect to the residents of Springboro.

Firstly, the aesthetic implications are undeniable. Springboro's historical district is a cultural gem, attracting tourists and locals alike. The introduction of a concrete batch plant would result in an eyesore that clashes with the quaint, time-honored aesthetic of our beloved town. This is not merely about preserving beauty – it's about maintaining the integrity and identity of a community that has thrived for generations.

Moreover, beyond the visual impact, there is a grave concern regarding the health implications associated with such facilities. Concrete plants are notorious for emitting harmful pollutants that pose serious health risks. These include particulate matter, which can penetrate deep into the lungs, leading to respiratory diseases. The long-term exposure to such pollutants is linked to significant health issues including asthma, cardiovascular diseases, and even cancer.

The evidence is compelling. Communities living near concrete batch plants have reported increased medical concerns and a significant decline in quality of life. It is our responsibility to protect Springboro's residents from an environment that could endanger their health.

We urge local government officials and developers to consider alternative sites for the batch plant, stop the re-zoning process and any potential/future enhancements of the inner and surrounding areas of; Mound Park dr., Duvall dr., and S Richards Run as well as  be far removed from residential and historical areas. Explore solutions that prioritize community well-being and environmental sustainability, such as placing the plant in industrial zones where the impact on human health is minimized.

It's crucial to prevent the degradation of our town’s historical charm and safeguard the health of our residents. Join us in our fight to oppose the construction, rezoning of its property and any future enhancements of the High Concrete, concrete batch plant of Springboro on the innner and surrounding areas of; Mound Park dr., Duvall dr., and S Richards Run as well as  be far removed from residential and historical areas.  Together, we can ensure that Springboro  continues to be a safe, healthy, and beautiful place for generations to come.

Many of our children ride those bike paths and roads to get to school on the daily.  The additional traffic with tractor trailers, dump trucks and other heavy equipment will prove to be incredibly dangerous for children and teenagers. Whether they are traveling to and from school, or visiting the local shops and ice cream stand. This added risk is unnecessary and hazardous.

Please sign this petition to voice your opposition and take a stand for Springboro’s future.
